On Thursday, November 20, Gov. Rick Snyder announced the appointment of a new member to the Michigan Natural Resource Commission. Along with the reappointment of NRC Chairman J.R. Richardson of Ontonagon, Christine Crumbaugh from St. Louis now has a position on the NRC as well. Commissioner Crumbaugh replaces John Madigan of Munising, who stepped down in August just prior to the end of his third term.
Crumbaugh has a lengthy background in agriculture, being the vice president of Crumbaugh Legacy Inc., a sizeable farm between St. Louis and Breckenridge. She also is a board director of GreenStone Farm Credit Service, as well as a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau, Gratiot Area Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Sugar Co., and the Michigan Corn Growers Association.
Unrelated to farming, she owns and operates Captured by Christine Crumbaugh, which is her photography business. She earned her associate degree from Davenport University and her bachelor’s from Central Michigan University. On the NRC, she will represent the Republicans along with reappointed J.R. Richardson.

There are seven members on the Natural Resource Commission, all appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. No more than four members may be from the same political party, and the term length for appointees is 4 years. The NRC is the entity that holds exclusive authority to make decisions regarding the manner and method of take of game animals, and once the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act goes into effect this spring, they will also hold exclusive authority to regulate sport fishing and add species to the game species list.
They meet monthly and their next meeting is December 11 at the Lansing Center.

Can't say I am surprised.......This is going to get interesting and I hope not in a bad way. The DNR snubbed (or should I say stabbed in the back)the AG industry on a real BIG issue . Remember this is coming from the GOV office and he is getting his marching orders from even higher up .
