You could almost say non-existant. I did NOT even buy a license this year. I have always said that the MDNR manages by a "wing and a prayer" and this year their prayers were answered. The record snowfall will give them an excuse for record low numbers of deer harvest. While I would be amiss for not giving the snowfall any part of the blame, I believe that the majority of the reduction was because of the dismal deer resource population numbers.

Many hunters that I talked to made it to camp for the social reasons. They did not fight the snow to hunt because of their game cam pictures, there just were NOT any deer worth hunting for. With this early start of another severe winter it will only get worse next year, if that is even possible.

Anyone else boycott by not buying a license? I believe it is the only way to get their attention. Just my opinion.

I do agree that boycotting the licensing would send them a signal not just about the deer the the ridiculous prices on them. It seems to me that they raised the prices again this year. I didn't even buy a rifle license this year.

the deer numbers in northern UP were brutal low lots of empty sits, seen very few deer.  2 tough winters and no yarding habitat has decimated the herds in some areas.  this could be the third tough winter in a row and next year could be even worse. habitat improvement needs to increase with both public and private sectors.  the state needs to create some major plans to rejuvenate the yards the current deer population is low so now may be a good opportunity. also manage smaller area populations of deer specifically for the area..  focus on more quality and less on selling licenses there isn't much left to shoot in the yoop.
