Natural Resources Commission to meet Thursday in Lansing
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Michigan State University Diagnostic Center, 4125 Beaumont Road in Lansing.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with a meeting of the NRC Marketing, Partnership, Youth Outreach and Outreach Advisory Committee. The committee will review the latest hunting, fishing and camping data and Recreation Passport sales. The committee also will hear updates on the Youth Conservation Council and the Pure Michigan fishing campaign.
At 1 p.m., the Committee of the Whole starts with Department of Natural Resources Director Keith Creagh’s report, which includes a request for proposal on invasive species grants; a review of Asian carp eDNA sampling on the Kalamazoo River; a National Wild Turkey Federation partner presentation of the winning wild turkey patch design; and a DNR Scorecard review of agency goals and progress.
After the DNR director’s report, the committee will hear a legislative update, followed by a Partners in Conservation Award presentation to Frank Mortl. This past June, Mortl stepped down as president and CEO of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association after 43 years of service.
Immediately following the awards presentation, the NRC will hear comments from the public. Those wishing to make public comments before the NRC should contact Cheryl Nelson, executive assistant to the NRC, at 517-284-6237 or nelsonc@michigan.gov to register.
Following public comments, the NRC will consider new salvage regulations for game killed during vehicle collisions and a technical change to the definition of elk management zones.
DNR Director Creagh is scheduled to announce decisions on:
An amendment to the Invasive Species Order, updating species classified as prohibited or restricted aquatic invasives.
Trout stream designations.
Statewide trout, salmon, whitefish, lake herring and smelt regulations.
Several land transactions.
