Natural Resources Commission to meet Thursday in Cadillac
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, Oct. 9, at McGuire’s Resort, 7880 Mackinaw Trail in Cadillac, Michigan. The meeting and all subcommittee sessions will take place in the resort’s Wexford Room.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with a meeting of the Michigan State Parks Advisory Committee. The committee will hear updates on the new price structure for Michigan state park and state forest campgrounds and reclamation developments at the Island Lake Recreation Area Spring Mill Pond area. Staff from the Department of Natural Resources’ Parks and Recreation Division also will provide updates on state parks infrastructure; proposed capital projects for 2015; and an overall summary of the 2014 season at Michigan state parks.
The committee also will discuss 2015 budget initiatives and hear a summary of the vital work completed by Friends’ groups affiliated with various Michigan state parks.
At 1 p.m., the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will receive updates from DNR Fisheries and Wildlife divisions; review an aquatic invasive species order and proposed fishing regulations; and discuss salvage regulations regarding the handling of animals killed in motor vehicle collisions.
The Committee of the Whole follows at 2:30 p.m. and includes DNR Director Keith Creagh’s report, a legislative update and awards presentations to long-serving hunter education safety instructors.
Immediately following the awards presentations, the commission will hear comments from the public. Those wishing to make public comments before the NRC should contact Cheryl Nelson, executive assistant to the NRC, at 517-284-6237 or nelsonc@michigan.gov to register.
Following public comments, action is expected on:
Regulations regarding wildlife rehabilitators and veterinarians.
Changes to regulations that govern trapping on Commercial Forest lands.
An amendment to the 2008 State Forest Management Plan.
Changes to walleye regulations in Michigan-Wisconsin boundary waters.
Changes to Black Lake sturgeon fishery procedures.
Two land transactions.
