Michigan Wildlife Council to hold first meeting Aug. 6-7 in Lansing
The Department of Natural Resources today announced that the Michigan Wildlife Council will hold its first meeting Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 6 and 7, in the Learning Center on the first floor of the Michigan Historical Center, 702 W. Kalamazoo St., downtown Lansing. The council will meet 1-5:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday.
DNR Director Keith Creagh will begin Wednesday’s meeting with an overview and expectations of the new council. Beginning at 3 p.m., a presentation will be given by representatives of the Colorado Wildlife Council and PILGRIM Advertising and Digital Marketing Agency.
Agenda items for Aug. 7 include:
Recap of the previous day.
Discussion and approval of proposed bylaws.
Review of timeline and budget.
Election of council chair and vice chair.
Comprehensive media-based information campaign proposals.
Meeting schedule for remainder of 2014.
Public comment period.
Persons wishing to address the council during the public comment period may register with Wendy Ledesma, assistant to the Michigan Wildlife Council, by calling 517-284-6056 or emailing ledesmaw@michigan.gov. Each individual will be limited to three minutes.
The Michigan Wildlife Council is a nine-member public body established by Public Act No. 246 of 2013. Members are appointed by the governor and subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. Created by the Legislature to oversee the expenditures of the Michigan Wildlife Management Public Education Fund, the council will work to promote the essential role that sportsmen and sportswomen play in furthering wildlife conservation and to provide education about hunting, fishing and taking of game.
