Natural Resources Commission to meet Wednesday, Thursday in Detroit
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will hold its regular monthly meeting Wednesday and Thursday, July 9-10, in Detroit.
On Wednesday, the Michigan State Parks Advisory Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Casino Building on Belle Isle. The committee will review Recreation Passport and camping metrics, consider a resolution of support for the Tippy Dam State Recreation Area management plan, review the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) 2015 budget, and receive an update on the Michigan State Parks and Outdoor Recreation Blue Ribbon plan and initiatives.
On Thursday, the NRC will meet at the Outdoor Adventure Center, 1801 Atwater, starting with an 8:30 a.m. meeting of the Marketing, Partnership and Outreach Advisory Committee. The committee will review hunting, fishing and Recreation Passport data and receive updates on the Pure Michigan campaign, the upcoming Play Date on the Capitol Lawn and the Youth Conservation Council.
At 10 a.m., the NRC will hold a special session with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians regarding Michigan's wolf hunt.
At 1 p.m., the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will receive updates from DNR Fisheries and Wildlife divisions, including waterfowl seasons and an update on the assessment of antler point restrictions.
The Committee of the Whole follows at 2:30 p.m. with DNR Director Keith Creagh’s report and a legislative update. A DNR Partners in Conservation Award will be presented to Michigan Cares for Tourism for the group’s work at Mill Creek and Belle Isle. Veteran hunter safety instructor Larry E. Jeziorski of Bloomfield Hills will be recognized for his more than 40 years of volunteer service.
Immediately following the awards presentations, the NRC will hear comments from the public. Those wishing to speak before the NRC should contact Cheryl Nelson, executive assistant to the NRC, at 517-284-6237 or nelsonc@michigan.gov to register.
Following public comments, The NRC is scheduled to consider early migratory game bird season and managed waterfowl area regulations, set antlerless license quotas for the upcoming deer season, and make a technical change to a fall turkey management unit.
Director Creagh is scheduled to announce decisions on mineral audit program fees and three land transactions.
