FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 6, 2014 Contact: Laurie Gaetano, 231-330-1055 or Ed Golder, 517-284-6241 Crooked River Lock in Emmet County now open The Department of Natural Resources today announced that the Crooked River Lock, in Alanson, is now open, with operating hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through May 23. The lock was originally scheduled to open April 19 but was pushed back due to the unseasonably cold weather and the presence of ice on the lakes and rivers along the inland waterway. The Crooked River Lock is jointly managed through a partnership between Emmet County and the DNR Parks and Recreation Division. A day pass for the Crooked River Lock is $10 and a seasonal pass is $30. The schedule for the 2014 boating season is listed below. Now – May 23 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 24 – June 29 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 30 – Aug. 17 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 18 – Sept. 1 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 2-7 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 8-30 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 4-5 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 11-12 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18-19 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25-26 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Crooked River Lock will close for the season at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. As high as the water is right there I would be surprised if the bridge didn't drag in the water when it swung open!
