I was one of the chosen to receive a 2020 Deer Harvest Study Paper Form and Letter. A few surprises were added at the end. The DNR added proposals that they want to make for next year. They wanted my opinion but seemed to want to slant the opinions stated by the hunter.
The Proposals:
1) A New Combo License
a - 2 tags for $40 [This is the same.]
b - only 1 statewide buck tag [NO SECOND BUCK TAG AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR.]
c - 1 statewide antlerless tag [Additional antlerless tags can be purchased if available for the desired unit.]
2) The Single Buck Tag would be eliminated.
3) APRs would be set statewide on the combo buck tag as follows: U.P. - 2 points on one side; N.L.P. - 3 points on one side; S.L.P. - 4 points on one side
4) A hunter with an unused combo buck tag could give it to a hunter that has already filled his or her tag.
These plans are right out of the QDMA Play Book (except for #4). The DNR is obviously making payback to the QDMA and the other special interests that were at their private meeting. These special interests are also being payed back for the support of the nominees that the DNR wants on the NRC. Director Dan E. has met with the Gov. in the past over nominees.
In order to get desired opinions the DNR made the following statement, "DNR wants to protect 'over 50% of yearly bucks' to promote their growth to older age classes." They did not say that this is one of the goals as stated by the QDMA, the MUCC, the MBH, and most of the other trophy hunting organizations in the state. These proposals could circumvent some of the proposals being currently discussed by the NRC. Go figure that one!
Anyone that knows me or that has read any material by me knows how I felt and feel about these proposals. I returned the filled out study including my very strong but polite feelings about "those proposals".
