For those that are limited in their movement, legislative action concerning overturning the baiting ban has taken another step forward.
2019 House Bill 4687: Permit deer baiting, clarify scope
Introduced by Rep. Michele Hoitenga (R) on June 4, 2019
To explicitly permit deer baiting for hunting, and feeding deer. Separate from this, the bill would also establish that feeding wild birds or other wildlife is permissible if done in such a manner as to exclude wild, free-ranging white-tailed deer and elk from gaining access to the feed.. Official Text and Analysis.
The MUCC is vocally and aggressively against both bills due to the tight connection to the DNR. Here is their statement: House Bill 4687 — Sponsored by Rep. Michelle Hoitenga, R-Manton. This bill is an identical bill to Sen. Vanderwall's SB 37 that would allow the baiting and feeding of white-tailed deer and elk. Both bills strip the right of the Natural Resources Commission to set and regulate baiting and feeding restrictions, as provided to them in the 1996 Proposal G ballot initiative. Both bills could set a dangerous precedent for the Legislature to circumvent the Natural Resources Commission on natural resources issues
My last comment is: I do not remember the DNR/NRC honoring Proposal G so why and how does that justification happen for this issue. I have never seen a scientific study done on baiting and disease. It has all been speculation and that is not scientific IMO.
