Morning brothers! A couple of days ago I spoke briefly about the recent failure of the thumb area MAPR proposal. I spoke about the need for unity and setting aside differences for the good of the hunt. It has become clear to me that the other side of the argument that is pro MAPR has no intentions at all of accepting the results of the surveys...and no intentions of unity among hunters.
On what grounds do I make this claim? Posted below is the most recent post to the MiQDMA Facebook page. I think it speaks for itself. Lets dive right into this! Strap in, enjoy that cup of coffee, and try not to get neck strain!
1.) MiQDMA is spouting off that they "won". Why? Well because, they attained a 55% support on the last survey. They did not attain the required 66% "supermajority" and thus the proposal is dead. In short hand they're acting like liberal democrats..."But but but we won the popular vote!" Yea we'll just never mind the electoral college so you feel better. Participation trophies for everyone! SMH There is a process and a requirement...that process was followed...the requirement was not met. For MAPR supporters though that isn't enough. They have now openly declared that they will do two things. A.) That they will pack out the next three NRC meetings with their people and monopolize the public comment time in hopes of swaying the NRC to undermine the process and implement MAPRs for the 5 county thumb region anyways. B.) That they will seek to have the 66% super majority rule amended such that a lower percentage would be enough to pass a new proposal into law. The other problem nobody seems to be talking about is the survey methodology and the number of surveys sent out. The MAPR crowd uses "population sampling". In short hand that means that poll an extreme minority percentage of a population and then conclude that the majority feels the same way as those polled plus or minus a couple %. I don't need to tell you how grossly dipshitastic that is. Something along the lines of 1,200 surveys were sent out in the thumb 5. Which is home to something like 15,000 hunters. I think you can see the problem here. If anything ought to be amended it ought to be the survey process itself. The opinions of less than 10% of a population in a given region should not be misconstrued as speaking for the rest. It has been stated before that EVERY affected person in the region ought to have a say. MiQDMA does not support that. I wonder why? Gee...hmm. Maybe because there is no way to twist the numbers in an all out vote! Scumbags! It speaks loudly they do not wish to hear the voices of MI sportsmen and in fact seeks ways to silence or bypass those voices. Make no mistake, this is not a group of people who give a damn about you or the future of hunting in MI. They are committed to their own agenda and nothing else.
2.) MiQDMA speaks of the "targeting" of young people. According to their research young people strongly support MAPRs. It's doesn't take a doctorate from MIT to see why. The young sadly know little of the hunting history of MI, they know little of sound management policy, they just plain don't know enough yet to know what it is they do not know. MiQDMA has stated the clear objective of going after the ignorant youth and exploiting them for their purposes. I find that utterly disgusting! If you will use kids to accomplish an agenda there is nothing you won't do. That should tell you everything you need to know about their character. Do you wanna kill a big buck kid? Well let me tell you how you need to do things. The MiQDMA equivalent of the rape van driver yelling out the window "Hey kid want some candy?"
3.) Apparently the goal of the DNR is to reduce deer densities in the LP and in particular in the TB and CWD zones. Oddly MiQDMA suggest that MAPRs will accomplish that...which is a departure from their previous stance. They were pedaling the tale that MAPRs do not decrease deer population for the longest time...untrue. The MAPR zealot mantra is "Kill more does!" Basically they want you to shoot a doe instead of anything less than an 8pt. Obviously that quickly sets in motion a doe genocide...which within 10-15 years or so would leave the population at near extinction levels. Obviously you cannot indefinitely continue to kill the does without causing long term serious consequences. Previously MAPR advocates cleverly tried to spin this to state that MAPRs balances the buck to doe ratio...when in fact it just killed the does down to the buck numbers. Why the MiQDMA is now reversing themselves on this is obvious...they are trying to claim that MAPRs will be a good management tool for dealing with TB and CWD. Trouble is...hunter participation will drop if MAPRs are imposed coupled with the drop from the baiting ban...fewer hunters in the woods means fewer harvests...which would obviously not achieve the goal of increased harvest numbers. Funny enough...according to the DNR OTC doe tags do not sell well to begin with. The state and the alphabet soup whitetail agencies are ALL failing to get more hunters to participate and that it obvious in license sales numbers. MI hunting is in decline.
4.) MiQDMA decided to just say what we all know they think...in short hand that ONLY QDMA and LEGLEG etc members are smart enough for the DNR and NRC to bother listening to. If you're not QDMA or LEGLEG then you're a caveman who has no business speaking about deer management. In fact you should not even be recognized in matters of import...or at least that is their stated position. They went one step further however...claiming that QDMA and LEGLEG members are the most dedicated hunters. I dunno bout you...but I'd love to have one of these candy I am an idiot for using that word board members from QDMA or LEGLEG from the LP come hunt with me in the back woods of the UP! They wouldn't last more than a handful of days if that! It never ceases to amaze me the assertions our November t-shirt wearing brethren in the LP come up with! They very clearly have decided to drop the smoke and mirrors and just go right after us in the open. A fatal mistake. Nothing creates hunter division better than calling half the state or more lazy idiots that aren't worth talking to.
5.) Hunting is least of all about antler size...and if you think otherwise I really don't know why it is you hunt at all. Every hunter is entitled to legally and ethically harvest whatever particular deer it is that suits them! PERIOD! You want more bucks? Great! So do I! So lets go to a single buck tag! Sadly QDMA and LEGLEG refuse this option...despite the statistical fact that it would save a minimum of 36,000 bucks per year! You wanna talk about conservation but you don't want to utilize simple options to aid the cause? Why not? Maybe it's because conservation isn't at all the goal! The MAPR crowd has created a grand canyon size separation in the hunting community and has made it clear they have no intentions of slowing down or rethinking things. Instead they have doubled down, spit out insults, and declared war on MI hunters. They have made it clear that they believe the rules should not apply to them...ironically while seeking to impose rules upon us. They have made it clear that will use any and all means necessary to achieve their goals...ironically while demanding due process be followed and rigidly adhered to with any proposal that contradicts their goals. These I am an idiot for using that word hats are nothing short of natural resource terrorists. They seek to intimidate, to manipulate and coerce, to brainwash young people, to leverage dark money and political ties, and to accomplish by force what they cannot otherwise...hardly an organization that embodies the views and ethos of the MI hunter! They're bringing the fight to your door. The only question left is are you going to stand there or shoot back?
