A 51-year-old Maryland man was knocked unconscious when a dead goose fell from the sky and struck him on the head while he was hunting waterfowl on Friday, Feb. 2.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources reports in a news release that Robert Meilhammer was knocked unconscious, and suffered severe head and facial injuries.
He was hunting with other people early Friday evening in Easton, Maryland which is about 70 miles southeast of Baltimore, according to the release. When he regained consciousness, Meilhammer "was able to say who he was but was hazy about other details."
The goose is estimated to have fallen about 90 feet to the ground before it struck Meilhammer. He was transported to a nearby airport by the DNR police, Talbot County Sheriff's Office and local EMS upon arrival.
The 51-year-old was then airlifted by the Maryland State Police to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He remains at the hospital where he is listed in stable condition, according to the release.
