Yesterday,
The Bluewater Chapter of the QDMA, Thumb Branch of the QDMA, myself and others submitted a proposal to the MDNR in October. This proposal was a 5 county Thumb based APR. The 5 counties consist of Lapeer, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties. Single buck tag would be a 4pt on a side and the combo would be a 4pt / 4pt a side restriction. Anyone eligible for the youth as well as disability hunts are excempt during their special hunts. We received a lot of support for this at Woods-N-Water, knocking on doors, social media and local restaurants. As of 4:15 p.m today, the MDNR has accepted our proposal. Time for the real work to begin.

I am really surprised that the DNR would even entertain a proposal right now. with so many knowns and unknowns right now.
I think blue water See's the clock ticking, and wants to get in before it's to late..but I REALLY don't get why the DNR accepted it.

Here we go again indeed. I think the DNR just doesn't want to pi$$ off certain hunters when they don't have to. It is painfully obvious the head biologist is on the Mapr bandwagon. It will be pass the buck by the DNR. All of the decision making will be done by the NRC. They will take the heat.
It is a shame that the Bluewater's don't want to get involved in keeping disease out of their counties. It seems that instead of worrying about their neighbors, they should be worried about their quarry. Deer hunting has changed in Michigan in the last two years. It is no longer about putting deer on the wall,( although there is nothing wrong with that). It is about putting safe and nutritious meat in our bellies.
I see no future for any kind of APR.

I believe that the Michigan QDM is now a part of several DNR coalitions and special groups as is the MUCC. My view is that the DNR has not been independent nor neutral on this issue for quite a while. I will have to check on the privileged group issue when I have time.

What are your thoughts. On the Lydia Lohrer article in the freep this weekend.
I am kind of leaning toward increased interest by the non-hunting public being a good thing right now.
Sent an email to the NRC last week encouraging them to favor science over emotion and rhetoric. And reminding the of the SFWMA passed by the legislature.

I think that the restriction regulation crowd is making a real mistake in downplaying that article. Both the hunting and non-hunting public will or have read that article. Wives and families will also be putting pressure on their hunters to ensure safe venison or quit hunting.

I really doubt a four pt on a side for BOTH tags will pass. I am from the thumb, raised in Sandusky and lived in Bad Axe and Caro. My barber is in Sandusky and thinks this is a pipe dream. But, with survey manipulation who knows.
