No pic unfortunately but threw in some colony traps covering a couple rat runs and had five rats today ( two rats in one and three in the other one ) , The beaver traps and rat trap at the other spot were empty but that was expected as that spot was just a little puddle with a small crick running into and out of it . Main thing was to get the beavers out of it for the land owner . Will leave those traps for a few more days just in case for the land owners benefit. Set a few more rat traps in a small pond the rats are digging into the berm of for the same land owner. Has to be several rats in there but not real happy with the way we set it up so if nothing in the first check will switch to some body grip traps like it really needs.

Been watching the weather and trying to time it so I wouldn't have to worry about my immune system being compromised by the chemo and get out a more substantial trapping line before winter shuts down open water . Decided today was time to see if it could be done as Tue the weather is supposed to turn cold and snowy . Got out five dz rat sets and a half dz beaver sets today . Barely made it and barely able to move right now but proved I still have little bit in me . Still will have to wait and see how much pain there will be in the morning but will have no choice but to make it out to check them . Didn't look like any one had trapped the area and seen several rats mid day . Two new beaver lodges out there this year so with prices low the beaver population is taking off. That is just where you can get a boat so I know back in, there has to be a bunch more .

So far yesterday the count was 30 rats and 2 beaver and today was 20 rats and 3 beaver . The boy may do the last check and pull by himself tomorrow as I start radiation tomorrow and with the forecast it is going to be a rough day and so will need to get started early . Kind of what I needed for a moral booster getting out a little and running a trapping line although I am totally wore out and sore .

That is a lot of work but it paid off in a real good catch. I am sure that the far northern fresh air will help you rest. I hope that all goes well tomorrow. You are in my prayers and thoughts.

What an ordeal yesterday . The plan was for the boy to take care of pulling the traps while I started my radiation . Got back from radiation and around noon the boy messaged me that he had the boat swamped with the high waves and wind at the maple bay boat launch So I had no choice to go help him get the boat where it would float again .Then the traps still needed pulling in the cold rain and wind . Was just six rats, but also a real large beaver ( 50 -60 lbs ) a small beaver and an otter . I was not able to walk when I got home until I got more pain meds in me and still struggling today to do any thing at all . Had no choice to go rescue him but this worn out body just cant take that kind of thing any more .

Felt well enough to get all the rats skinned today and a little more than a dz put on stretchers to dry . Extended forecast is for snow and cold so things will start freezing up and if I feel well enough might go after a few more rats and beaver close to home and where I can drive close to where I need to set them

That's a real nice beaver and then throw an otter in makes for a pretty good catch IMO. I hope that you can get some rest and strength back now that those traps are pulled. Freeze what you have until you feel better.
For your amusement, I swamped a boat once and it was a borrowed one at that. The owner did not tell me that the fiberglass boat had a plug and that he had pulled the plug! There were also 2 foot waves or better. That doesn't sound bad but in a Lake Huron port, it was exciting enough under the circumstances. I always checked for a plug after that experience.

Every thing is skinned , five of the beaver the fur was put in the freezer to put up later , The rats are all skinned fleshed and dried , the otter and the other two beaver are fleshed and dried . Also thawed a couple of whole coon from the freezer and the ten rats we got right at the beginning of season and got them on stretchers drying right now . If we don't get too much more snow( we got over a ft on the ground right now ) I might set some traps at road crossings this weekend .

It is good to hear that your energy level is holding up under the circumstances. Taking care of pelts is not an easy task but then you are a master at it if anyone is. Be careful and enjoy your time outdoors.
