When you run into qdma signs.. you start seeing tower blinds marking up the landscape..
I took a trip up through the middle of the thumb yesterday
Heavy in qdma signs and these sheltered raised units
Used to be a time it had to be done from the ground sitting in a snow bank. I did it for yrs back in the 80's
Not huddled around propane heaters and calling it hunting
Wonder how they would handle my place fighting wind in 2 man ladders

Not that I would fault any one for the way they hunt ,and I currently hunt from a heated blind , but I also know and accept the disadvantages of hunting that way and my chances of regularly killing a mature buck . I think that is one of the biggest lies the QDMers spread about MARs being the cure for all hunting issues related to consistently killing bigger bucks .

I huddle around a propane heater but my blind is on the ground where my visibility is limited. My problem with the MARs/QDM folks is the I am better than you attitude when it comes to hunting. Hunting is being outdoors with family and friends enjoying the activity that puts tasty nutritious game on the table.

I'm not faulting anyone.. its just weird to me that I start seeing these when I start seeing signs.
I can't control how one hunts. Or does anything else
My qiestion is how does one play the wind??
I have several ladders I can move if needed
Those appear hard to move
Although I may erect one just to get gramdson out amd not overly subject him to harsh weather at 2yrs old

Hunting out of a permanent blind has all the disadvantages you listed however those QDMers put the blame on all other hunters for their inability to consistently kill big bucks. I hunt out of a permanent blind knowing those disadvantages and knowing it may decrease my chances at killing a big buck because that is the way I like to hunt and if I don't kill a deer I don't blame other hunters for my failure or try to restrict them like the QDMers do.

Food plots came about in the same time frame. Those that had those signs back then put a lot of pressure on their neighbors to sign agreements and gave QDMA a real bad name.
What is a mature buck? Why all the fuss about shooting a mature buck? A dead deer is a dead deer, whether it is 1 or 100, a buck or a doe. After it gets in my freezer, no-one will see it but me. No-one will even know I got it, if I don't tell. Of course it will still be estimatedly recorded.

Ya I didn't post this to offend anyone.. I'm was just blindly conversing on why the 2 are or seem to be mixed..
I got photos of one I bet is 30' up.. there are atleast 3 levels of stairs anyway..
I counted like 10 signs along this stretch and near 30 of these stands
As for most hunters most know to read sign and hunt accordingly
Buck hunting is a different skill than deer hunting
And believe me I have been driven out of my ladders by some serious inclimate weather..
Most of my deer hunting gear is waterfowl gear. So it can take a beating. But I have found I get colder faster for sure
I have a 7 layer stormseal sweater that's a game changer. But what money I have in COLD WEATHER GEAR would build a couple of these I'm sure
I suppose if I set one up for a west wind and one for a north wind it would suffice
As for mobility with them? Maybe some 8x8 ski's??
I don't try to shoot many doe's
Unless previous wound or the old grey donkey heads
I will set up on them hoping they pull in a buck
Again I meant no offense. Just striking a conversation

Yep and I think all the regulars here understood that well, but the MARs cult always seem to twist what is said into something that wasn't
Yes to be consistent it is, unless you believe the lie that if we just had MARs there would be a big bucks every where . I have to disagree with you on this one . I think it is the other way around including the majority of QDMers. The difference is the non QDMer has a different motive concerning deer hunting . Not that they don't want to be successful but big antlers are not an all consuming life priority for them . For the QDMer the antler lust is all consuming but they would rather blame other hunters for their failures than learning how to read sign and hunt accordingly (hence the reason for so many tower blinds ). Like Doehead mentioned about food plots. The QDMA teaches it is as simple as putting in a food plot , setting a blind up over it and shooting all the big bucks that come running and if the big bucks don't show up it is the neighbors fault for shooting them before they got ripe enough to grow large antlers .

I know about qdma guys.. had words with them on more than one occassion at my local restraunt
If timing is right and I catch them on camera this yr in a want and waste situation
One will meet my local DNR agent
Watched it happen 2 yrs in a row.. I bought a vid cam with a large zoom just for him this yr.. but as I just now walked up from out back
They moved their box blinds and added stilts
They are close to 1/2 mile off now

I adapt to the wind by the windows I close and open. My back window is never open and it is painted black. I keep it as dark as possible inside. Due to Parkinson's and a healed up broken body, I can no longer go up in trees. I must say that I enjoy it more this way. My granddaughter can easily sit next to me. From my blind, I can see several runways and a ravine. I can also take a snooze without worrying about falling! Bucks and does go by and once in a while a doe will stick her head in the window to see what is snoring, LOL. QDMA folks don't get to me but if a black bear stops out in front of the blind, now that can cause me to get nervous especially if all I have is my bow!
Tracking is a skill that I have had since I was quite young. As my dad taught me, I have now taught my granddaughter. She is now better at it than I am. A lot of QDM hunters want it easy so I really have doubts that they could track an elephant through 3 feet of snow!

My brother lives by the first CWD outbreak in Kent County. Close to the ranch. Nice property. He owned it years before the incident. The sign posters tried to educate him while he was building his home. He really didn't like their persistence. They kept trying to get him to sign an agreement on the size of the bucks he took. It didn't work. It was never about disease, it was only about the number of points a buck had. It did just the opposite of what they wanted, he now targets the young bucks, as does his wife and his two sons, and two grandsons. Easy pickins. I'd rather shoot the rabbits there though, we don't have them that size where I hunt. Or so stupid.
