Making lanolin base for my trapping baits..
I have found in the past that a couple weeks into season commercial baits work fine. But canines wise up to them and homemade pulls them in

You trappers go to a lot of work these days. We boiled our traps and set them. For canids we threw chicken parts out or dead road kill, for coons we put just about anything out. I can't remember ever having trouble catching critters.

Still can do that and get lucky with canines ridge
But I have kept traplines notes for yrs and yrs
My k9 hook up rate doubled when I boiled in lye
And was nearly double in late season when I went with homemade baits
I don't eat enough whatever to make 100 sets
But I can put up enough to make and sustain 100 sets

I believe we used lye soap as my mom made it and there was always a lot around our place. I don't remember how many sets we had. Most were muskrat and coon. I remember it was a lot of fun when we were young and the money was a lot better than today.
