The question of MAR’s in a nutshell.
“Should deer hunting regulations be influenced by one group of hunters to control the choices of another group of hunters?”
There are a lot of collateral discussions surrounding mandatory antler point restrictions. These topic discussions are just a smokescreen to hide the real agenda of MAR’s. MAR’s have nothing to do with herd health, doe to buck ratios, fawn survival, crop losses, deer vehicle crashes, one buck rules, mandatory harvest registrations, maturity at harvest, or even God forbid, trophy racks.
MAR’s have caused massive division in Michigan deer hunter ranks like no other issue in recent history. This divide is wide and deep. It has contributed to the loss of Michigan hunters who feel that their voices have not been heard. They feel that their levels of anticipation have been in a freefall and they have experienced a reduction in their perception of gratification and satisfaction from a tradition they once loved.
The only way to reverse this mass exodus from deer hunting in Michigan is to reverse ALL MAR’s regulations and return to the hunter friendly, maximum harvest management, that was so successful in the past. History has repeatedly shown us that more deer equals more hunters.
Sound biological science should be the rule of the day, not “social science” or the politics of influential groups with divisive agendas. Please bring common sense back to Michigan deer hunting and hunters.
