Why targeting yearling bucks is a poor approach for reducing risk from dispersal in a CWD zone. From msf forums by bioactive;
Condensed version; I think, I am not, I will, I am, I think, Let me, I show, I created. So let's, That is, we, we have, But we, So we, we have, we might, We will, we can't. they are, they really, they believe, they focus, they are, they will, huge problem.
You can clearly see how the division in hunters is being exacerbated right there.

Wow. You really are a piece of work. Why don't you just post the entire thing. It actually is pretty informative. Has nothing to do with aprs. And probably a better plan than what the dnr is doing. I know his ideas may not sit well with you as he,recommends killing button bucks before theyou disperse. Killing doe fawns. And killing yearling bucks before hunting season. Since antlers aren't a concern with this group what is the problem. Munsterlndr always advocates killing yearling bucks to combat cwd. Bio is agreeing and upping the fight by advocating killing bucks before they reach 18 months old. It's obvious who the real antlerphiles are.

For those that don't comprehend what I was trying to convey; First the man talks down to us in a manner that we know nothing. Second the man talks to us as we are equals. Then he hits us with the "we are slobs".
That's all.

[The above box should not be in this post but I can't seem to remove it. Sorry for the confusion.] Social considerations drive management success. That is really the point of this thread. If you can't get hunters to participate, you won't be successful. A substantial reduction in population, along with enough mature bucks to make hunters interested, and you will probably achieve better results in the real world. [This is a quote from the restriction doctor which he stated summarized the above lengthy spreadsheet based document.] My disagreement enters when any age group or gender is restricted from the harvest especially in the disease and containment zones. Outside of those zones it is my opinion that a herd generated by MARs will not be able to react to a population crisis created in any manner. I believe that such a herd is more susceptible to disease unless the total animal numbers are so low that there may not be enough to hunt. In that case there is no longer any point to MARs. His premise that hunters will not participate if there are no large bucks is false as I have experienced it. First, I have never seen a regional or area herd that did not have at least a few large bucks. Second, hunter numbers have been sustained where there have been stable or realistic total numbers of deer. Third, the NE Michigan counties demonstrate that hunters are willing to knock the numbers of deer down when given antlerless permits and when allowed to shoot any buck. All bucks have been on the table their through Hunter's Choice. Unfortunately hunters were willing to do the job so well that some areas have no to 1-2 deer per square mile. That premise is not valid for the present disease zone because both hunters and sharp shooters are limited as to where they can take deer. Around the Lansing area there are many properties which provide safe no hunting places for deer. That does not produce a good model for reducing deer from a herd and containing a disease.

Here is quote from deer expert Dr. Samuels that disputes the restriction doctor's calculated plan: [Transmission of Chronic Wasting Disease in Wisconsin White-Tailed Deer: Implications for Disease Spread and Management
Christopher S. Jennelle , Viviane Henaux , Gideon Wasserberg , Bala Thiagarajan , Robert E. Rolley , Michael D. Samuel
Published: March 21, 2014DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0091043]
However, as disease prevalence continues to increase, the rate of infection in yearling bucks will also increase [46]. Because dispersing bucks may be an important source of disease spread, these patterns suggest that CWD prevalence outside the core area will continue to grow and the disease may spread at an increasing rate. Although the drivers of CWD spatial spread are not generally known (see [44] for identification of landscape features that affect spread), management efforts to reduce both local prevalence and deer abundance will likely reduce dispersal of infected yearling bucks. However, the relative impact of reducing deer abundance versus prevalence in lowering the number of infected yearling bucks likely depends on disease prevalence and deer density [46]. Further research is needed to determine the factors that affect spatial spread and develop effective management strategies. [end of quote]
That boils down to bringing down herd numbers and bringing down the numbers of young male bucks [button bucks and spikes] in disease and containment zones. It also implies managing for a herd that is not over populated and which is slightly higher in does than bucks. Thus a MARs area will have an increased susceptibility to CWD due to the increase in number of younger bucks because they are eliminated from the harvest or are mostly so.

You see every account you create on msf only helps out Steve. It attracts more advertising by how many members the site has. After my go around so with Steve I will no longer help contribute to that site in any fashion. Speaking of a piece of work how about this tidbit: "Given what's going on with CWD on the other side of the state, I think I may resurrect some old openings into rye fields to further disperse the deer away from the heavy concentrations on the neighboring farmland and then we'll whack every yearling buck we have a tag for so the public land guys can't shoot any this year, until APR's are implemented to help fix our retention and recruitment problems. [editor note - I believe this quote was made by Pinefarm.]

Yep the jim brauker always know better than any one else and every one else is lower than him. Just google his name if you don't believe it. But when one does google his name one finds he is no more important than any one else and all his exploits are nothing but some fantasy he has made up in his own mind. Basically he is a looser that has ridden the coat tails of those that have been successful and stole their fame as his !

I probably should be but I could not possibly be, or is it I would if I could probably should but that's not good. His whole spiel was his opinion. Probably.

I don't doubt he is a scholar, he has a PHD. His involvement in in deer hunting is habitat, IE trees and plants. He would go down clinging by his nails.

What does that supposed to mean ? I couldn't find anything special about him like he claims he is !
Jim Brauker is not only a he is a laughing stock for telling people to google his name! Over on the MS forum he tells an outright lie and then tries to tell every one it isn't a lie , it is a thought problem . What the heck is that supposed to mean , that he is so much better than every one else that when he says something untruthful it isn't lying? The sad part is those that follow his every word like a lost puppy and how he uses that loyalty without them even realizing he is doing it.

In my opinion the sheep dogs thought they were the best, but they were awestruck when the messiah appeared. Now there was actually someone that understood them and could give them what they want. Although he really wasn't qualified, he had passion and charisma and soon everyone considered him to be the chosen one. Although his followers were in the minority, they knew if they played theirs card right, he could give them what they wanted so much. After Mr. Obama was elected..... Sometimes when you want something so bad you will believe anything if it fits your agenda...especially if a PHD says it. What a sad, bitter man.
