I hunted a bit during the early goose season but I didn't get a thing, shot at a couple but they were pretty far off and they didn't seem to notice at all. I shot this goose on the opening day of duck season with my 10 gauge shotgun. I think this is the first thing I have killed with this gun, and it sure did a nice job. This was one of those shots where everything felt right and it all lined up and the goose was dead before it hit the water. It looks like one of the BBs went into its head. This goose was still pretty far up there, but this time I aimed way ahead of it (more than I though was needed) and it ended up being a well placed shot. It will be interesting to see how the rest of duck season goes now that I know where to aim.

It is not a massive marsh but I have watched muskrat and mink swimming in it.

Congratulations, skiotter! That is a real nice looking bird. Timing and leading are everything. I expect that a lot of birds will be dropping your way. Having tasted goose jerky, I can say it is well worth the time and effort.

Well some friends and I went back to the same spot and harvested 6 or 8 ducks between 5 of us. The female redhead in the middle is the one I shot. We believe an otter that we saw swimming around our decoys may have swam off with one of the small ducks we had killed since we came up short when we went to retrieve them. We also saw a beaver in the marsh today.

Did you get them in the same spot as the goose? Had an otter try and take off with one of our few decoys one time way back when I did a little duck hunting!

We were in two groups, but I shot my duck in the same spot that I shot the goose. Those otters are sneaky! But so far I have seen: mink, muskrat, beaver and otter in this marsh. I can't imagine there is a huge population but we are seeing things with fur.

That's some pretty good hunting for a small marsh. Well done! I have seen otters try for living ducks. Those otters can be quick.
