Mike Avery had a great interview with John Ozoga on his past week's show during hour 1. Mr. Ozoga is a retired DNR field/deer biologist. Given that I expected that he would be entirely pro-DNR. I could not have been more wrong.
He gave several reasons for the MISMANAGEMENT with today's deer herd. They include going with the money, political correctness, media, and using answers from computers instead of field biologists. The baiting ban will result in reverse results from that which the DNR wants according to his view.
He has asked for data and has requested answers to questions without acknowledgement of his requests or answers given. If this is how the DNR treats one of their former top deer researchers, it is no puzzle as to why they ignore hunters.
He also stated that NRC members are over ruling and mandating the actions of field biologists. This answers the question as to whether or not the DNR is using sound science. Obviously they are not. They have become no more than a political tool of the DNR.
The last point that I took away from the conversation was that he felt that shooting "more or too many" does would increase fawn dispersal and again provide reverse results from those stated by the DNR.
What does this all add up to in his opinion? A LOSS OF DEER AND DEER HUNTERS ON A CONTINUING BASIS.
