Natural Resources Commission to meet Thursday in Roscommon
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 13, at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center, 104 Conservation Drive, in Roscommon.
The day begins with 10 a.m. meetings of the Marketing, Partnership and Outreach Advisory Committee and the Policy Committee on Finance and Administration.
The Marketing, Partnership and Outreach Committee will hear updates on year-to-date changes in hunting, fishing and camping activity and results from the recent Pure Michigan hunting campaign. The committee also will review U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-supplied data on the economic value of natural resources and get a recap of the recent National Archery in the Schools Mt. Pleasant tournament and statewide winter outdoor recreation programming.
The Finance and Administration Committee will review program outcomes and metrics tied to the restructuring of hunting and fishing licenses. The committee will also review projects from the Deer Range Improvement, Turkey, and Fisheries Settlement funds and discuss the economic impact of Michigan’s natural resources.
At 1 p.m., the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will receive updates from Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries and Wildlife divisions; discuss elk regulations and quotas and bear quotas; receive an update on bovine tuberculosis surveillance; and learn the results of the Southern Lower Peninsula antler point restriction survey.
The Committee of the Whole follows at 3 p.m. It starts with DNR Director Keith Creagh’s report, which includes updates on department programs and priorities. Director Creagh also will present DNR Director’s Awards to Parks and Recreation Division employees who earlier this year were critically involved in the rescue of lost snowmobilers near the Porcupine Mountains. DNR Chief of Staff Dennis Knapp will provide a legislative update.

Items scheduled for action by Director Creagh include five land transactions and an order to reopen several state forest campgrounds.
